DataFest @ Vassar 2021 is Underway!

After our opening ceremony, the data have been revealed and our teams are off on their sprint to find connections and make predictions!

Teams will work until noon on Sunday and submit their analyses for judging in three categories:
– best insight
– best visualization
– best use of external data

We’re excited to see what they can accomplish!

Congratulations DataFest 2020 @ Vassar participants!

Congratulations and thank you to all who participated in DataFest 2020 @ Vassar: COVID-19 Virtual Data Challenge!  In these challenging times, we especially appreciate (and commend!) everyone for their enthusiasm and collaborative spirit.  Thank you to the students for  submitting projects, volunteer consultants & judges for their time and expertise, the Vassar President’s Office for sponsoring this year’s prizes, and other departments and offices from Vassar and Marist for their support.

Announcing: COVID-19 Virtual Data Challenge!

This weekend would have been our DataFest 2020 @ Vassar!  Although we will miss this live event with you all, we are pleased to announce the ASA DataFest: COVID-19 Virtual Data Challenge that will take place over a two-week period: May 20 – June 3, 2020.  While this virtual DataFest will still include some key aspects of our usual live DataFests (e.g. working in teams, data-centered fun and exploration, workshops, volunteer consultants, panel of judges, prizes), there are also some important differences (notably,  no dataset provided- you find your own, so no need for secrecy either!)

Read more about this year’s challenge on our COVID-19 Virtual Data Challenge page.  The registration deadline is May 1, 2020.

DataFest 2020 @ Vassar – suspended

We hope everyone is staying safe & healthy in these times of change and uncertainty.
It is with great disappointment that we announce the suspension of this year’s DataFest.  This was a tough decision with much deliberation made at the national level (i.e. DataFests across all institutions are being suspended this year).   As of yet, no alternative arrangements have been made, but we’ll provide updates here as any develop.  And we plan to resume next year (DataFest 2021 @ Vassar!) so please join us then either as a participant or, if you’ll be graduating this year, a volunteer!

Coronavirus and DataFest

As of yet, planning continues for DataFest 2020 @ Vassar.  However we continue to monitor the coronavirus situation, especially on campus, and if need be, may modify DataFest 2020 into more of a virtual experience.   We will keep all registered participants notified with updates.
