Don’t Leave Just Yet! Exciting CAAD Events This Week

Spring Break might be just days away, but before you head out, be sure to attend these wonderful CAAD-sponsored events tonight and tomorrow!

You’re the Expert

Tonight is the night! Chris Duffy will be recording LIVE at 7pm in Skinner Hall for a special episode of his podcast called “You’re the Expert.”

In You’re the Expert, host Chris Duffy leads a panel of comedians through game show segments and hilariously misguided guesses to try to get to the bottom of what a distinguished scientist studies all day. The expert in this episode will be Vassar’s own Professor Nancy Jo Pokrywka. The three comedians who will be participating in the episode being recorded at Vassar are Josh Sharp, Gary Richardson, and Obehi Janice. For more information, check out the Facebook event.

Solar Panel Workshop

Tomorrow (Friday), from 9am-5pm, please stop by the Collaboratory and volunteer your time to help with the installation of solar panels on the trailer. Made possible by a collaboration between the Sustainability Office at Vassar, CAAD, and the Environmental Research Institute (ERI), this project is being led by Jose Rojas ’18, a student intern at the Sustainability Office and a Physics major planning to work with green energy engineering. Below is Rojas’s project summary:

The Sustainability Office wishes to install a Solar PV electric system onto the Collaboratory trailer in an effort to raise awareness about climate change and demonstrate the benefits of renewable energy. We will be working with Sun Dog Solar a supplier and installer, located in Chatham, New York, to execute this project. The Sustainability Office has estimated the amount of energy required to run Collaboratory events based on Thomas Pacio’s – manager of the Collaboratory – list of electronics used during events, duration of events, and the usage of the trailer. Installation will occur over the course of a day long workshop with Sun Dog Solar. Student volunteers will be able to attend the workshop and gain hands on knowledge of how Solar PV systems operate.

Below too are a few graphics produced by Rojas to help illustrate the logistics of the project as well as the many benefits of installing solar panels on Vassar’s campus.

If you are interested in contributing to the project, please fill out the google form below and volunteer even a small part of your Friday.
