Performance by Peter Cook and Kenny Lerner – Flying Words Project

Saturday, November 7, 7:00p

Sanders Auditorium

The Flying Words Project is an American Sign Language (ASL) poetry troupe comprised of Deaf Poet Peter Cook and hearing coauthor Kenny Lerner. Internationally renowned Deaf performing artist Peter Cook is associate professor of ASL-English interpretation at Chicago’s Columbia College. Cook has been featured in festivals such as the Jonesboro National Storytelling Festival, Illinois Storytelling Festival, and the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.  The goal of Flying Words is probably the same as all other poets: to play with language. As luck would have it, ASL is a language of moving pictures. So Kenny and Peter juxtapose imagery you can see in creating their work.
