About Catch of the Day

“Catch of the Day” is a site to collect and disseminate information regarding phishing, spam, and fraudulent emails received by Vassar College constituents.  If you receive a suspicious email, check here first!  Look at the Catch of the Day blog posts, or search for keywords that appear in the email.

We strive to reduce the impact of these types of emails by making sure the Vassar College community can quickly recognize non-valid email communications that could lead to serious computer problems, including a large-scale compromise.  All examples that are posted on this site are actual emails received by members of our community.  To keep everyone safe, identifying information such as email addresses have been modified, and harmful links have been removed.

Please take these important steps:

  • If you receive a suspicious email and it is already posted in “Catch of the Day”, report it as Phishing or Spam in Google Apps for Education.  Click on the down arrow next to the reply arrow within a message to select “report spam” or “report phishing”.  The more emails that are reported, the better Google becomes in catching these messages before arriving in your inbox.
  • If you do not see the questionable email posted, send it to catchoftheday@vassar.edu.  The site administrator will get back to you and advise on whether it is really Phishing, and will post your email on Catch of the Day within 24 hours.
