Confidentiality

The handbook for students registered with AEO states that disability-related information is shared only on a need-to-know basis.  AEO may share disability-related information only with the Dean of Studies Office, Counseling, or a professor.  For example, if a student is struggling in a class, someone at AEO might disclose that the student is registered with the office and receiving accommodations.  Another scenario might involve someone at AEO advocating for a student and mentioning disability only if it seems appropriate.  AEO may also share that a student is registered with their office if a class Dean reaches out to AEO.  AEO, however, will not share a student’s diagnosis or documentation with another office.

Other than on need-to-know bases, AEO will not disclose this information without the student’s consent.  In addition, this information is in no way a part of a student’s academic record, nor does it appear on his or her academic transcript.
